A hickey, also known as a love bite or bruise, is a mark on the skin caused by sucking or kissing. Hickeys are usually red or purple and can be painful or itchy. They are most commonly found on the neck, but can also appear on other areas of the body. Hickeys are caused by broken blood vessels under the skin. When someone sucks or kisses on an area of skin, they create a vacuum that causes the blood vessels to break. The blood then leaks out into the surrounding tissue, causing the hickey.
