Shutting down or restarting a computer using the keyboard is a useful skill to have, especially if the mouse or trackpad is not working. There are two main methods to switch off a computer using only the keyboard: using the Alt + F4 keyboard shortcut or using the command prompt.
Using the Alt + F4 keyboard shortcut is the most common method. To do this, press and hold the Alt key, then press the F4 key. A dialog box will appear asking if you want to close the current window or shut down the computer. Use the arrow keys to highlight the Shut down option, then press the Enter key.
